The First Season of ReZero Almost Had Only 1 Cour!
It looks like we will be getting plenty more ReZero in the future. Sho Tanaka, the executive producer of the anime, talked about the franchise’s 10th anniversary and stated that this story is far from over.
During a Q&A, Sho Tanaka, who is the executive producer of ReZero, said, “ReZero is not ending here. For ReZero, another 10 years are beginning.” He also commented that many difficulties had to be overcome for the anime adaptation to reach this point, with the series currently adapting Arc 6 of the story.
However, something he said really surprised me! The First Season of ReZero, which premiered in 2016, could have been released with only 13 episodes!
The First Season of ReZero Almost Had Only 1 Cour!
According to information shared by the Ice on X, one of the difficulties during the decision-making process for the first season was a proposal to make the anime only 1 cour, meaning around 13 episodes, amid funding problems.
Thankfully, that idea didn’t move forward.
The first season premiered on April 4, 2016, and ended on September 19 of the same year, with a total of 25 episodes adapting the first three arcs of the story.
Arc 1 was adapted into 3 episodes, with Episode 1 having a runtime equivalent to two episodes.
Arc 2 was adapted into 9 episodes, from Episode 4 to Episode 11.
Arc 3 was adapted into 14 episodes, from Episode 12 to Episode 25.
Imagine how strange it would have been if the first season had only adapted up to Arc 2, which is precisely the arc where we are introduced to Rem, Ram, Roswaal, and others.
Thank goodness ReZero ended up getting 25 episodes, giving us a great introduction to the anime!
