Brazilian Chibiusa Voice in Sailor Moon Eternal Goes Viral Worldwide

Brazil became the center of anime discussions around the world! Not for such a good reason, though. A page called Out Of Context International Dubs posted a clip of the Brazilian dub of Sailor Moon Eternal, showing the character Chibiusa with a very… adult-sounding voice.

Check out the clip, which ended up being viewed more than 1 million times:

Many people started commenting that the voice actress chosen for Chibiusa doesn’t fit the character, that her voice sounds too old, along with plenty of jokes.

It turns out they decided to bring back the same voice actress from years ago. Yes, Ursula Bezerra! She voiced Chibiusa in the original anime and, after many, many years, returned to voice her in Sailor Moon Eternal.

Just listen to what her voice sounded like back then:

Among the comments, many people pointed out how a person’s voice changes over time and how much Ursula’s voice has changed. Others tried to explain what might have happened.

Some attributed the change in her voice to the fact that she voiced Naruto for many years. Ursula became the Brazilian voice of Naruto and also voiced other male characters, as well as some children in the Dragon Ball series.

  • “No way, it’s Goten.”
  • “All respect to Ursula, but no. Her voice has NOTHING to do with the character. You can’t take this dub seriously.”
  • “Brazilian dubbing is excellent, but the dubbing director committed a crime by bringing her back with her voice like this kkkk”
  • “Naruto’s voice coming out of this girl was hilarious. Even though it’s the same voice actress, Ursula Bezerra, I have a lot of respect for her and her brothers, who are also great voice actors.”

Some people also suggested other voice actresses for the character, such as Bianca Alencar, while others simply couldn’t stop associating the voice with Naruto.

Even comments in English started appearing, pointing out that she is the same voice actress from the older versions, but that her voice has changed considerably over the years.

Another comment summed up the situation pretty well:

“Naruto’s voice, help meeeee.”

There were even people comparing the situation to decades of smoking, while others asked where they could watch the dubbed version.

A comment also pointed out that Ursula Bezerra is a cancer survivor and that, besides Naruto, she is also known for voicing young Goku in Brazil.

Finally, some people directly criticized the decision to keep the same voice actress, saying that the dubbing director should have compared her current voice with the old version and realized that she could no longer reach the same tone.
