VTuber Removed from Voice Acting Role After Making Pun

There is a Korean game called Eternal Return, a free-to-play PvP title available on Steam, and it features Hololive Vtuber Ouro Kronii.

Kronii also has a separate voice acting profile under the name Dottovu, where she takes on dubbing work. This is similar to how Mori Calliope is also known as Demondice—both identities belong to the same person.

What happened? Dottovu/Kronii was announced yesterday as the voice actress for a character in Eternal Return named Bihyung. However, today she was already removed after the game’s official account announced they would be choosing a new English voice actress for the character.

The reason behind the removal is a pun she made four years ago.

Four years ago, Kronii and Bae were sponsored by Eternal Return to play the game. At one point during the stream, they were killing boars, and Kronii, speaking in her usual tired tone, made a pun saying “Boar-ing.”

“Boring” means dull or uninteresting, so the joke comes from combining “boar” (the animal) with “boring.” Some people saw it as just a harmless animal joke, not a criticism of the game itself. However, the Korean community did not interpret it that way, as viewers said she appeared uninterested throughout the stream.

The clip eventually became a meme in the Korean community, and the stream was widely criticized, with some viewers claiming Kronii showed little interest in the game.

When Korean fans learned she would be voicing Bihyung, the clip resurfaced and mass complaints were sent to the developers, questioning why someone perceived as uninterested in the game was chosen. After reviewing the situation, the developers announced her removal and said a new voice actress would replace her for the English version, citing the controversy around her past comments.

Kronii then addressed the situation on her personal account as Kronii, saying:

“Breaking news: a tire is tired, and a boar is boring. If you found these puns controversial, then go to the hopital.”

For those who don’t understand the wordplay, she is making two puns here: “tire is tiring” and the earlier “boar is boring.”

As Dottovu, however, her statement was much more measured. She talked about how mistranslations can distort meaning, especially for non-native English speakers, and asked people to be more careful before drawing conclusions or taking action. She also mentioned she had experienced similar misunderstandings before and acknowledged their potential harm.

She said it was painful to lose an opportunity due to the situation but stated she would continue pursuing new voice acting projects on her own. In the end, she thanked those she worked with and fans who were excited for her, saying she will continue to improve.

On the Western side, many people expressed that they would no longer play Eternal Return and called the game “dead.” On the Korean side, people were upset with Kronii for allegedly disrespecting the game years ago and again in the present.
