Open-World Romance Game Raises 5,500% of Its Original Goal
How do you know if there’s demand for a specific type of game? Start a crowdfunding campaign with your idea. If, for example, you achieve what Custom Romance City 3D3 did, then yes, there’s huge demand for that kind of game!
Just imagine coming up with an idea for a new game and asking for only 1 million yen to make it (1 million yen is about R$31,705.37), and then, after 38 days of crowdfunding, you end up raising 55 million yen? (R$1,743,429.05) That’s exactly what happened with Custom Romance City 3D3.

From the very beginning, the campaign showed signs of immediate success. Within just a few hours, the project had already reached its initial goal, and in only two days it had surpassed the 10 million yen mark.
As the weeks went by, new stretch goals were unlocked, including extra content, outfits, and new areas within the game. Even after reaching all of the originally planned goals, the crowdfunding campaign for Custom Romance City 3D3 continued to receive support, leading the developers to expand the goals even further.
The project even exceeded the newly added limits, ending the campaign with a significant amount of additional funding.
Okay, But What Is Custom Romance City 3D3?
Custom Romance City 3D3 is an open-world romance game with a strong focus on customization. It is part of a lineup of titles by developer Kiss, known for games such as the Custom Maid 3D2 series.
In this new entry, players can create and customize their ideal girlfriend and explore an open city called Romance City. The biggest feature is the freedom of interaction, allowing players to build relationships and explore different activities within the virtual world.
According to the developers, the project has been in development for about six years, but to be completely honest, I think the graphics could have been better.
Following the enormous success of the crowdfunding campaign for Custom Romance City 3D3, the development team confirmed that the game remains in active development and is scheduled to launch on August 28, 2026, for PC (Windows).
The expectation is that all of the additional goals reached during crowdfunding will be implemented in the final game. They certainly didn’t expect to raise that much money, and it showed us one thing: people really want a game like this.
Just imagine a romance game full of girls and different routes for each girl, but set in an open world inside a city where the story changes depending on what you do. I have no idea if a game like that already exists, but I think it would be really cool, and people have just shown that there’s demand for it.
Since Custom Romance City 3D3, based on its description, lets you create your own girlfriend, it’s not exactly the type of game I described above with a predefined story, but I guess it’s the first step, right?
