Japan’s Most Watched Anime Ranking Surprises with the Number of Isekai Series
What we talk about here and what is actually popular in Japan are two completely different things. While we discuss several anime that we’re sure will become popular, Japan’s tastes are completely different, as shown by the current Top 5 most-watched anime on ABEMA.
ABEMA Ranking Shows Anime That NOBODY Talks About in the West
The Japanese streaming platform ABEMA has released its traditional weekly anime ranking, based on viewing data collected between July 20 and July 26. The list takes into account both live broadcasts and on-demand streams available on the service.
The biggest surprise this week was the arrival of Sekai Saikyou no Kouei: Meikyuu Koku no Shinjin Tansakusha at the top of the rankings. The anime claimed first place for the first time, ending LV999 no Murabito‘s streak of three consecutive weeks at No. 1. It dropped to fifth place but remained among the five most-watched series.
In second place, Mushoku Tensei III remained in exactly the same position as the previous week. Meanwhile, Futsutsuka na Akujo de wa Gozaimasu ga: Hinamiya Chouso Torikaeden reached an important milestone by entering the platform’s Top 3 for the first time.
Another highlight was Tsuihou Sareta Tensei Juukishi wa Game Chishiki de Musou Suru, which debuted directly in fourth place.
It’s worth remembering that these results only reflect ABEMA’s viewing data and may be influenced by the platform’s exclusive or early streaming rights for certain anime.

4 – Tsuihou sareta Tensei Juukishi wa Game Chishiki de Musou suru (MAL score: 6.84)
5 – LV999 no Murabito (MAL score: 6.31).
As mentioned, I don’t know how many anime from the current season are available on ABEMA. If I had to guess, probably quite a few. Still, this is a pretty interesting Top 5, isn’t it?
