Maiden Blood Wants to Be a Dark Anime Without TV Censorship

A new original anime called Maiden Blood has been announced, and it is being produced with a very different goal: creating a dark, violent and hardcore action fantasy without the restrictions normally imposed by TV broadcasts.
Production began in 2020, during the pandemic, when series composer Makoto Uezu pitched the producers an idea for a hardcore action anime. The goal was to create a series that would not have to tone down its content just to comply with television restrictions.

Director Seiji Kishi revealed that some of the early episode drafts were considered unsuitable for television broadcast.

Because of this, the production committee is still negotiating with broadcasters to find a way to air Maiden Blood while keeping its dark story and intense content as originally planned.
In other words, the team does not seem interested in turning the anime into a lighter version simply to secure a spot on TV.
The project also features several well-known names, including Kishi as director, Uezu handling series composition, and LAM designing the characters. Animation will be handled by Polygon Pictures.
A Story Full of Blood!!!!

The story takes place after the rise of an Evil God, who gains power from humanity’s fear of death. The result is an apocalypse that leaves only a handful of survivors in a world consumed by darkness.
In this world, human blood has become extremely valuable, being used as currency, fuel, and even as a weapon against demons.
The story follows the sisters Eva and Epica. Epica has lost her soul and become a powerful warrior who fights using blood, while Eva was born unable to walk.

The catch is that only Eva’s blood can awaken Epica’s true power.
Maiden Blood is scheduled to premiere in 2027, and it remains to be seen just how far the team will be able to take its dark vision without having to cut or tone down the content for TV. Then again, even releasing it directly online could be tricky these days with so much censorship.
