Dissolution of the Silent Union

Dissolution of the Silent Union is a short, narrative-focused visual novel that follows Vera, a girl trapped on her last day of school as she approaches an inevitable encounter.

The game goes for a melancholic and supposedly unsettling atmosphere (although I didn’t find it unsettling), combining psychological horror elements (which I didn’t really see), an anime aesthetic, pixel art, and realistic photographs to create an increasingly strange reality.

Dissolution of the Silent Union: A Story Set in Liminal Spaces

Much of the experience takes place in environments that seem familiar while also feeling completely wrong. The abandoned school becomes an unsettling setting filled with liminal spaces and events that challenge the protagonist’s perception.

The relationship between the two characters is also one of the central points of the story. As Vera explores the location, the player has to piece together fragments of memories, monologues, and details hidden throughout the environment to understand what actually happened.

Yes, the game doesn’t explain absolutely anything to you, and you basically have two choices: play through it several times and take notes on what Vera says, or simply look up what other players have managed to figure out about the game.

Dissolution of the Silent Union Has a Fragmented and Mysterious Story

The story of Dissolution of the Silent Union is presented in a fragmented and cyclical way. The game has a total of “7 endings,” which you actually have to put together to understand the full context.

The game also has anomalies and glitches hidden in seemingly ordinary situations. These were supposed to be the game’s horror elements, and I’m MEGA EASILY SCARED, so I was honestly worried about finding something creepy. But… nope. There was nothing. It was actually very chill, so there are no real horror scenes.

The game is extremely short. It took me 31 minutes to get all 7 endings, although I still haven’t unlocked every achievement. That said, getting all 8 achievements isn’t difficult.

The game is available on Steam, and if you want to support an independent creator, it’s a pretty cheap little game.

It reminded me of how sad I was when I had my own last day of school…
