A remake of Steins Gate has been announced with new visuals, expanded story content, and even new endings. You may have already heard about it due to the visual upgrade Kurisu received, which we covered earlier. However, what many players may not know is that streams and video uploads of the Steins Gate remake are completely prohibited on the internet.

Mages does not want anyone streaming the game or uploading videos to YouTube or any other platform. In fact, there have already been cases in the past where individuals were arrested or fined for uploading Steins Gate footage without permission.

Mages highlighted that the goal behind the ban on Steins Gate Re:Boot videos and streams is to prevent the experience from being spoiled before the official release. According to the developer, gameplay videos and live broadcasts can do more harm than good, since the game is heavily story-driven as a visual novel. Watching the content online could discourage potential buyers from experiencing it firsthand.

On the fan side, many argue that banning videos and live streams could make it harder for the game to gain popularity, effectively “hiding” it from the internet.

Another relevant point is the legal history surrounding the franchise. In recent years, there have been severe penalties related to unauthorized distribution of Steins Gate content, including copyright infringement cases that resulted in fines and even suspended prison sentences in Japan.

Even with these restrictions, Steins Gate Re:Boot will feature updated graphics, re-recorded voice acting, and a new ending that expands the original experience. The game is set to release on Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
