So an Anime Site Played The Sinking City 2!
Who would have thought this would happen TWICE? We ended up receiving a key for The Sinking City 2, so here is my post about the game… after I received a copy of 007 First Light.
The Sinking City 2 is a third-person survival horror game set in 1920s Arkham. The city has been taken over by a supernatural flood, leaving its streets, buildings, and entire districts in terrifying conditions.
The story begins after a ritual goes wrong and traps a woman’s soul in the Dreamlands. And that’s where we come in: we have to explore the city and save her.
Among the enemies are the Slither, creatures capable of animating the dead, and the Deep Ones, which emerge from Arkham’s dark waters. Being honest here, they’re basically zombies… you know the zombies from RE? These Slithers are basically zombies.
They’re the bodies of dead people that end up being possessed by these big worms that crawl inside their bodies and attack you. I don’t like horror games, I’m scared of them, and I have to admit that playing this game was a huge problem for me. It’s basically a Resident Evil (I’ve never played RE, but I’ve watched people play it).
So I went to read reviews from people who played The Sinking City 2, and I saw a lot of people complaining that this game plays more like Resident Evil than the first The Sinking City.
I won’t deny it, The Sinking City 2 is VERY SIMILAR to the modern Resident Evil games. As I mentioned, I’ve never played any RE game, but I’ve watched streamers play them, and The Sinking City 2 plays very similarly.
You arrive at a location. For example, there is a part involving a church, right? You get to the church and have to solve the puzzle there to open a path. To solve the puzzle, you have to go to one part of the church, pick up an item, take it somewhere else, open doors, but for those doors you need to find keys.
And throughout all of this, monsters and zombies keep showing up, and then you decide whether you’re going to fight them with your gun and a physical attack button, or run away and leave them wandering around.
So yes, it plays a lot like Resident Evil, but there are two things that make it different. One is that there is A LOT of water, the city is flooded, and… the second is that there is investigation!
You can investigate clues, find ritual remains, decipher diaries, and discover secrets scattered throughout the city, and this unlocks certain things (including some pretty disturbing scenes).
Optional investigations aren’t required to progress through the story, but if you complete them, you earn points to improve certain abilities. So I recommend doing them whenever you can.
This definitely isn’t my kind of game… I had a lot of problems because I’m easily scared, you know? So imagine me playing this while walking slowly and getting jumpscared by monsters jumping across the screen?
By the way, if you’re easily scared, this game has a mode that allows you to make the protagonist invincible.
Yes, that means you won’t take damage or die, and I tested this mode for a while because I was scared… IT DIDN’T REMOVE THE FEAR!
Even though I was invincible, I still didn’t take any chances. I still walked carefully, avoided the monsters, and tried not to die.
Anyway, if you’re experienced, this game should take a little over 10 hours to finish.
