Super Bullet Break: A Game Where You Have to Save Other Games

In Super Bullet Break, the world of online games is being destroyed by a rogue AI. And yes, your mission is to save these games before they disappear forever.

You control one of three available characters — Akari, Hikaru, or Sumire — and throughout the adventure, your character is literally playing the game. In fact, on the title screen, you can even see her little fingers holding the console.

A deck builder with tactical elements

Super Bullet Break mixes turn-based strategy with deck building and has some very obvious inspiration from gacha games. The difference is that there are no microtransactions here.

During each match, you find different items, abilities, and the so-called Bullets, which work as the cards in your deck.

And all of the Bullets are cute little female characters.

This game was definitely not made with me in mind.

Each Bullet has its own characteristics and effects. They can deal damage to enemies, heal your character, provide armor and shields, or apply buffs and debuffs.

The fun comes from building a team that can make all of these abilities work together.

Strategy and a little bit of luck

The game itself includes a manual with strategy suggestions to help you during your matches. Even so, you constantly have to decide which Bullets to use, which items to pick up, and how to build your deck.

You can also find new cards, items, and rewards during your runs, as well as purchase things from shops using the in-game currency you earn.

So, despite being inspired by gacha games, Super Bullet Break completely removes microtransactions from the formula.

Every game has its own style

The adventure takes you through seven different maps, and each one is inspired by a different game genre.

You will visit worlds based on things like dating sims, rhythm games, and dungeon crawlers, with each one bringing its own challenges.

Your choice of starting character also affects your playstyle, since Akari, Hikaru, and Sumire have different characteristics and start with different decks.

In the end, Super Bullet Break is a curious mix of deck building, turn-based strategy, and gacha elements, without requiring you to spend money to get characters.
