AV Actress Ruu Totsuka Says JAV Saved Her After “Brainwashing”
AV actress Ruu Totsuka revealed details about her past in an interview with Nikkan Spa!, published on August 13. She said she experienced severe bullying, psychological pressure, and even propositions involving the so-called “casting couch” during her time in Japan’s entertainment industry.
Ruu started her career as a child actress at just six years old, appearing in local musicals in Kagoshima Prefecture. However, during middle school, she became the target of jealousy and relentless bullying from her classmates.
The situation seriously affected her health. She developed anorexia and eventually needed intravenous nutrition because the veins in her arms could no longer be used.
Ruu Totsuka Talks About Problems in the Industry
After being discovered by a voice acting agency, Ruu moved to Tokyo. There, she met someone from the industry who promised to help her pursue a career as an actress.
This person paid for various forms of training, including horseback riding and tea ceremony lessons, while also trying to introduce her to publishers and television networks.
What initially appeared to be an opportunity, however, eventually turned into a relationship involving psychological control. Ruu described the experience as a form of “brainwashing,” involving constant phone calls, demanding messages, and overwhelming mental pressure.
When her mother realized what was happening and tried to cut contact, the situation became even worse.
The person filed a lawsuit against Ruu, demanding 7 million yen for expenses allegedly spent on her professional training and career development.
JAV Saved Ruu
The legal dispute lasted approximately four years before ending in a settlement. After that, Ruu says she had reached rock bottom.
Having spent practically her entire life in the entertainment industry, she also had no idea how to start a career outside of it.
That was when she decided to try something completely different: entering the JAV industry.
At first, Ruu was frightened by the change and began working in swimsuit gravure to get a feel for the industry.
According to her, however, she ended up finding something she never expected in the AV industry: stability, safety, and an environment where she felt accepted.
When she told her father about her new career, he did not reprimand her. Instead, he supported her and said he was glad she had found a place where she could belong.
Today, Ruu Totsuka says her work as an AV actress was essential in helping her overcome that extremely difficult period.
“If it weren’t for the job of an AV actress, I don’t think I would be in this world today.”
