Nvidia DLSS 5 in your anime games, because some fans are already testing the technology in anime games like Higurashi and Danganronpa, and the results are BIZARRE.

Nvidia’s new technology uses generative AI to improve visual elements in games, including lighting, skin, hair, clothing, and textures. In theory, it sounds amazing. In practice, when applied to games with an anime art style, things can get REALLY weird.

One X user started experimenting with DLSS 5 in anime games and posted some results that look like they came straight out of a nightmare

One of the examples involves Danganronpa. Makoto Naegi no longer looks like an anime character and instead gets a much more realistic appearance, but the result ends up looking like a creepy doll.

And he wasn’t the only one. Characters like Junko also received the treatment, while the corridors of Hope’s Peak Academy ended up looking like something straight out of one of those abandoned-place videos on the internet.

The user also decided to test the technology on Higurashi. And this is where things got even MORE terrifying.

Higurashi is already known for mixing cute characters with extremely disturbing moments. When you add a layer of realism on top of that, characters like Rena and Mion end up with that “this definitely shouldn’t exist” look.

And it didn’t stop there. Other games like Trails and Shin Megami Tensei V also became part of the experiments.

The idea of using AI to make games look more realistic can be interesting, but apparently some anime characters were born specifically to not look realistic.

After seeing these images, I definitely prefer to stick with the characters in 2D.
