Two Men Accuse Manga Artist Kurata Mayumi of Sexual Harassment
The comedian Nagai Hidekazu, known for his catchphrase “Machigainai!” and currently serving as a city councilor in Nishi-Tokyo, is at the center of a legal dispute after accusing manga artist Kurata Mayumi, author of Damen’s Walker, of sexual harassment.
The situation took a new turn after Kurata Mayumi filed a lawsuit against Nagai at the Tokyo District Court, seeking 2 million yen in damages for defamation.
The case began after Nagai appeared in a YouTube video in September of last year. During the broadcast, he claimed that he had attended a gathering with Kurata in Tokyo in 2024 and that the manga artist repeatedly touched his lower abdomen over his clothes.
Nagai explained that he was not simply trying to attack Kurata, but was reporting something that, according to him, had actually happened.
“There are people who become more physical when they drink,” the comedian reportedly commented, making it clear that he was describing his own experience.
Kurata, on the other hand, completely denies the accusation and says the account is false. The dispute eventually moved beyond social media and will now be addressed in court.
Another Person Reported Something Similar Against the Manga Artist
The controversy involving Kurata Mayumi did not begin with Nagai.
In August of last year, lawyer Yasuyuki Sakurai, known as the “muscle lawyer,” also posted a similar accusation on X. He claimed that he had been sexually harassed during a gathering and accused Kurata of touching his private area.
Kurata denied the accusation at the time, calling it a malicious lie. She also stated that she had only met Sakurai once at a gathering and that nothing like that had happened.
The controversy ended up involving other personalities close to the manga artist, including writer Yuzuki Muroi and politician Ryuichi Yoneyama, who defended Kurata on social media.
Now, however, the situation has taken an even more serious turn with the lawsuit filed against Nagai.
Nagai Says He Is Telling the Truth
After receiving the lawsuit, Nagai appeared again on the Miko Neko Channel in July to discuss the case.
He said that he had received the complaint from the Tokyo District Court and was being accused of making false statements that damaged Kurata’s reputation, which is why she is seeking 2 million yen in damages.
Nagai once again insisted that he did not lie and that he intends to fight the accusation in court.
In an interview with the press, he stated that he was “absolutely certain” that what he described had happened and also said that he had heard that other people had experienced similar situations.
Kurata, meanwhile, chose not to provide details about the case at this time.
In an interview, she said that she intends to reveal everything in court and that there are many things she would like to say, but she cannot disclose information that has not yet been presented during the proceedings.
On social media, the manga artist also once again denied the accusations and said that she did not do what the men are claiming.
According to information reported by Japanese media, lawyer Yasuyuki Sakurai, who had previously made an accusation against Kurata, is expected to represent Nagai in the case.
Kurata is the author of the manga Damen’s Walker, which follows women who become involved with “men who are no good.” An anime adaptation was released directly online in 2010.
