GraPara Author Says She Has an “Iron Mentality” After Receiving Backlash
The GraPara manga has ended, and the ending was… see for yourself. Because of such a disappointing ending, even though the manga’s theme is netorare, GraPara author Airi Katsura (yes, I confirmed it, she is a woman) made several posts on Twitter because of all the controversy.
Because of the way GraPara ended, the author started receiving several nasty comments on Twitter, from both Japanese and foreign users.
And regarding this, Airi Katsura said:
“I have an iron mentality, so I’m fine, but don’t do this kind of thing to other authors, okay? Also, I sometimes take the opinions of people who financially support me into consideration, but ‘paying = having the right to make me change the recipe’ is not how it works. And even if you don’t like me, please don’t start hating Nishikida-sensei!”
GraPara is a manga created by two authors. Airi is responsible for the story, while Nishikida illustrated the manga. And let’s be honest: Nishikida’s art is really beautiful, because GraPara has gorgeous artwork.
In another tweet, Katsura Airi said:
“You’re free to dislike or be dissatisfied with a work, but reading an unauthorized copy for free and then complaining to the author is like stealing food from a grocery store, eating it without paying, and then going to complain to the chef that the food tasted bad.”
Among the replies, one Japanese user posted the following message:
“So are you planning to ignore the comments from people who paid to read the final chapter on MangaPoke?”
He then showed screenshots of comments from people who were dissatisfied with the ending of GraPara. You have to pay to read the chapter, so these were comments from people who had actually paid to read it.
If you visit the author’s profile and look through the replies, you’ll find several negative comments about the manga’s ending.
And yes, Airi Katsura is a WOMAN. She has an official website where she says on her “About” page that she is a woman. So yes, it is a woman writing netorare.
