Date Otaku Girls in the VN Girlfailure Art Club
The visual novel Girlfailure Art Club has received an official Steam page, revealing more details about the new visual novel that will place players inside an art club filled with extremely peculiar otaku girls. The title also received its first teaser trailer.
The project is being developed by Japanese creator Uka Todoki alongside publisher Artodria, and is scheduled to launch for PC via Steam in 2027.
Girlfailure Art Club features an art club full of otaku girls
In Girlfailure Art Club, players take the role of Mamoru Gasai, a second-year student at Akeba Academy who decides to join his school’s art club after realizing he does not really fit in with the popular students from the tennis club.
Like many romance visual novels, Mamoru ends up being the only boy in the club and spends his days surrounded by four otaku girls who are excited to finally have his attention.
The club members have very different personalities and represent various types of Japanese culture fans. Rinne is passionate about obscure subcultures and the underground scene, while Shoko is a huge fan of shonen manga.
Kana is a “moe”-style girl who dreams of becoming an anime voice actress, while Yurie is a hardcore fan of fictional self-shipping and is even the only character who does not have a romantic route.
According to the developers, Girlfailure Art Club was created to explore the niche of “cringey otaku girls,” bringing several references to 2010s otaku culture that may give players plenty of second-hand embarrassment.
Creator Uka Todoki also revealed that part of the inspiration came from her own experience as an art club member during her school years.
The game promises more than six different endings and an estimated playtime of around eight hours, although some details may still change while development continues.
The idea is for players to follow the daily school life of these eccentric characters while trying to win the heart of their favorite otaku girl and reach a happy ending.
Girlfailure Art Club will release in 2027 for PC via Steam.
Many people on Twitter have also been complaining that the visual novel is not a Yuri game, despite the expectations some fans had.
