FX Senshi Kurumi-chan Was Much Darker in Its Original Web Manga

Did you know that the officially published version of FX Senshi Kurumi-chan, which has now been adapted into an anime, is actually a heavily toned-down version of the original story?
Recently, Japanese fans brought attention back to the original web version of FX Senshi Kurumi-chan. That’s right! Before becoming an officially published manga, FX Senshi Kurumi-chan started out as a web manga.
What Is FX Senshi Kurumi-chan, and How Does Its Cast Work?
The story follows college girls and young women who dive headfirst into foreign exchange trading (FX/Forex), hoping to get rich overnight. The series is known for its hilarious yet terrifying contrast between cute character designs and the twisted expressions of girls who have lost everything.

A viral post on X (formerly Twitter) perfectly summed up the main quartet in the current adaptation:
- Kurumi Fukuga: The protagonist who trades Forex using money from her part-time job, but ended up stealing money from her own father in Episode 3.
- Mochiko Kogane: The chaotic mentor who acts as the root of all evil, luring other girls into the financial abyss.
- Yasuko Takane: The voice of reason in the group, and the only one who keeps a healthy distance from the market’s risks.
- Ibuki Yamashi: The poor girl who gets liquidated over and over again, eventually sinking neck-deep into massive debt.
FX Senshi Kurumi-chan’s Original Web Version: The Cuts That Shocked Fans
Before it was professionally published in a magazine, the story began as an independent webcomic drawn and posted directly by its creator. Without the strict editorial guidelines of a major commercial magazine, the author unleashed the full extent of the story’s dark side, exploring Japan’s financial underworld without holding back.

When the series transitioned to print manga and anime, several characters’ backstories were drastically nerfed:
Mochiko Kogane’s Starting Capital
Two characters stand out because of the major changes made between the original web manga and the published manga and anime.
First up is Mochiko Kogane.

In the serialized version, Mochiko is portrayed as a skilled investor who already has a substantial fortune of 10 million yen. However, in the original web version, she earned that money through paid dating. Needless to say, the manga cut that part of her backstory.
Yamashi Mebuki

Mebuki is a blonde character who first appears in Episode 4 as one of Mochiko’s students. In the manga, she’s just another girl trying her hand at FX trading.
But what happened in the original web manga? After racking up astronomical Forex debts, Mebuki loses her virginity and turns to adult escort services (delivery health, or deriheru in Japan) to pay off her creditors.

The original pages recovered by Japanese fans show a motel room, undressed clients, and Mebuki’s psychological anguish as she faces the nightmare she’s gotten herself into.
In the anime and the current commercial version, all explicit sexual content has been removed. Now, the girls just panic as they lose money — at least so far, anyway, even though Kurumi has already stolen money from her father.
