Fans Discover Incredible Dragon Quest 7 Detail Hidden on the Original CD
Released in 2000 for the PlayStation 1, fans have only now discovered something pretty interesting about Dragon Quest 7. And here’s a bit of an explanation for those who haven’t played it.
When you start Dragon Quest 7 and open the map, you realize that there is only your starting island and nothing else. There’s water everywhere. Like, there’s literally nothing else, just your tiny little island.
Then some things happen (and I honestly don’t remember the beginning that well anymore), but you and your friend discover an area in the shrine with pedestals. These pedestals need tablets to be placed on them. The tablets represent islands that were lost, and you have to recover the fragments of these tablets to rebuild the islands of the world:
Once you collect all the fragments, you return to the shrine and put them together:
Once the fragments are combined, you form a tablet, and when you place it on the corresponding pedestal, the tablet starts glowing. Then the characters enter the tablet and can explore that island in the past.
So, to summarize:
In Dragon Quest 7, something happened to the world and only one small island remains, surrounded by water. You discover tablet fragments from the rest of the world and, by putting those fragments together, you are transported to the past to solve the problem affecting that island.
After solving the problem, you return to the present, and that island appears on the map. Little by little, you fill the world map with more and more islands and more and more people!
And then you can explore these islands in the present to see how everything has evolved.
Okay, so what did the fans discover?
It was discovered that, on the Original CD of the game, the map of the starting island is actually drawn directly on the CD. Take a look:
So, after all these years, people realized that all the islands in Dragon Quest 7 had been sealed away, but the player puts the disc (in this case, the tablet for the starting island) on the pedestal (the console, in this case the PS1), causing the protagonists’ island to come back to life and thus starting the story!
THIS IS INCREDIBLE!
I’m just a little disappointed that, since Dragon Quest is relatively unknown here, not many people will appreciate this little detail. Dragon Quest 7 is the 5th game in the franchise that I’ve played, and I’m absolutely loving the series. I had to share this discovery because I thought it was incredible!
