Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse Devs Expected Spicy Fan Art

If you think the new characters in Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse look attractive, then I guess we have very different tastes, because I honestly can’t stand the art style they went with for this game.
But here’s the funny part: the developers actually said they deliberately made the characters hot! The team behind the game revealed that they put a lot of thought into the character designs to please the fans.
In an interview with Fall Damage, lead designer Sandro Bordier and marketing director Berenger Dupre discussed the reception to the new designs, including the revamped look of one of the franchise’s most iconic characters: Trevor Belmont.
The reaction was so strong that the developers even joked about creating a category at The Game Awards dedicated to hot dads in video games… oh, boy.
Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse Devs Have Already Seen “Spicy” Fan Art
During the interview, a fan predicted that the new designs would trigger a tsunami of spicy fan art… am I the only one who thinks these character designs look terrible?

Sandro Bordier confirmed that the team had already come across some pretty suggestive fan creations, and he seemed amused by the whole situation.
According to the designer, the characters’ appeal wasn’t accidental. The team knew exactly what it was doing when it came up with their new looks.
“Yes, we know some characters are hot. It was a choice; it’s part of the vibe. We’re pretty proud of it,” Bordier explained.
He also said the developers were thrilled with the audience’s reactions to the revealed characters and voice cast. The team put a lot of love into creating designs that could win over both longtime fans and newcomers (well, they failed with me).

And let’s be honest: when a franchise has decades of history and such beloved characters, winning fans over with the visuals can be just as important as delivering solid gameplay!
Okay, here’s my take as someone who loves Castlevania and has played 19 games in the series: I absolutely hate the art style they chose for this game. It’s really not my thing, and honestly, I think everyone looks ugly.
The female protagonist doesn’t look cute or pretty at all to me. I think she looks downright ugly. And it’s pretty obvious that this game is trying to borrow from the animated series’ art style.
As for the Netflix series, I loved the first season. I genuinely enjoyed it a lot! But things started going downhill for me from season two onward, so I dropped it. I never finished Trevor’s series, and I had no interest in watching Richter’s either.
