Author of Mii-chan to Yamada-san Addresses the Diana Account Controversy
After all the controversy surrounding the announcement of the Mii-chan to Yamada-san anime adaptation, author Nene Azuki decided to publicly address the situation. However, instead of commenting on the criticism surrounding the manga or its anime adaptation, she chose to clarify her connection to the Diana account, a topic that had also gained attention on social media.
According to Azuki, several people began directly associating her with the profile, raising questions about her involvement with the stories published by the account and even about personal experiences related to the themes explored in those stories.
The author explained that she only worked as a commissioned illustrator for the Diana profile until February 2024. She stated that she was not responsible for managing the account, creating posts, or writing the stories published there.
In addition, Azuki made it clear that she has never worked in the sex industry, as a cabaret hostess, or in similar services. She also stated that she has never participated in papa-katsu, a Japanese practice involving relationships in exchange for money or gifts.
According to the author, this clarification was necessary because some people started believing that she wrote stories based on her own personal experiences, something she completely denies.
Who Was Diana and What Were the Rumors?
Some people strongly believe that before officially debuting under Kodansha, the author apparently used the pen name ダイアナ (Diana).
Under this name, she:
- Published an independent version of Mii-chan to Yamada-san through Kindle Indies;
- Maintained an X (Twitter) account;
- Made posts on FANBOX;
- Talked about personal experiences and various topics.

When the Mii-chan to Yamada-san anime controversy began, users started bringing back old posts from the Diana account. Among them, there were allegedly posts where she mentioned working or having worked as a “scout.”
In Japan, the term “scout” usually refers to people who approach women on the streets to recruit them for:
- hostess clubs;
- cabarets;
- girls bars;
- the adult industry;
- other nightlife jobs (夜職).
Why Did This Become Controversial?
Based on Japanese comments:
- Some people started using these old posts to question the author;
- They began connecting these past statements with the content of Mii-chan to Yamada-san;
- The situation escalated to the point where users searched through old interviews, FANBOX posts, and previous accounts.
It is worth mentioning that several pieces of content related to the Diana profile were deleted after the Mii-chan to Yamada-san anime controversy started:
- The old Kindle Indie version of Mii-chan to Yamada-san published under the name “Diana” → removed;
- Diana’s Twitter account → set to private;
- A post where Diana said she was a “scout” (スカウト), meaning a recruiter connected to nightlife jobs → deleted.
