Teacher Arrested for Forcing Student to Send “Menstrual Reports”

Kanagawa Prefecture – Kanagawa Prefectural Police have arrested a 52-year-old former teacher from the city of Odawara for allegedly sending nearly 200 inappropriate emails to a student, in which he demanded updates about her menstrual cycle, according to NHK.

Mamoru Yamaguchi, currently unemployed, is facing charges for violating the Child Welfare Act.

According to police, over a period of about a year and a half until July 2023, Yamaguchi sent 192 emails of a sexual nature to a girl who was part of a school club he supervised. Investigators revealed that the former teacher repeatedly demanded that the student send “Menstrual Reports.”

Additionally, it is implied that he also requested reports regarding each “adult activity” she engaged in, but the exact nature of these activities was not specified.

Upon arrest, Yamaguchi denied the allegations and attempted to justify his behavior to investigators.

“I thought it was a legitimate administrative procedure,” he reportedly said.

The case came to light earlier this year after the victim’s mother contacted local authorities. The Odawara City Board of Education issued an immediate apology following the arrest.

“This is extremely regrettable,” the board stated in a release. “We will provide guidance to ensure that our staff act in accordance with their self-awareness and ethical standards as public education servants.”

Japanese reactions:

  • There is no way this can be considered legitimate work.
  • If it were just a sports club advisor asking for menstrual reports, you might think, “well, maybe that exists,” but he was forcing the student to report it.
  • First of all, you shouldn’t be exchanging personal messages via smartphone.
  • And this isn’t about “giving time off for menstruation,” what is this? Forcing reports just to get sexually aroused?
  • Where exactly could anyone justify this as a legitimate administrative act?
  • When I did sports, we wrote menstrual notes in a notebook and gave them to the coach, but no one would ever make reports about self-pleasure.
  • Damn… there are still people like this out there…
  • Shouldn’t they change a lot of things in teacher recruitment exams?
  • This is disgusting. Having disturbed teachers like this causes serious trouble for those who actually do their job properly
