What is a Tsundere?

The term “tsundere” originated from the combination of the Japanese words “tsuntsun” and “deredere”.

“Tsuntsun” is an onomatopoeia used to describe someone who is cold, prickly, or distant, while “deredere” represents someone who is in love, affectionate, or completely smitten with another person.

Because of this, a tsundere character usually hides their true feelings behind a rigid or aggressive facade. Many times, they are embarrassed to show affection and end up acting in a contradictory way, alternating between moments of coldness and displays of affection.

This mixture of pride, shyness, and repressed affection is one of the characteristics that define the tsundere archetype.
