Control a Ghost in Tea Party at the Extinction Museum
Tea Party at the Extinction Museum is a new Japanese indie game that combines cute characters, gothic aesthetics, and a surprisingly unsettling atmosphere. Developed by independent creator Teira, the game is scheduled to release on Steam in 2026.
The adventure follows Rei, a girl who becomes a ghost after an accident at the museum where she worked. When she wakes up, however, she is no longer in her former workplace but in a strange world known as the Museum of Extinction.
A Museum Filled With Mysterious Creatures
In this world, Rei encounters Chris, an extremely violent girl who cannot speak. Unable to find a way back to her original body, Rei decides to follow her while trying to uncover the secrets of this strange place.
As a ghost, Rei has a special ability that allows her to pass through walls and squeeze through narrow spaces. She can also possess Chris, allowing players to switch between the two characters while exploring the museum.
Chris, meanwhile, uses her physical strength to move objects, destroy obstacles, and fight enemies.
The relationship between the two girls is also an important part of the adventure. Although they are initially hostile toward each other, Rei and Chris gradually grow closer as they explore the mysterious museum and learn more about their pasts.
A Cute Adventure With a Dark Side
Despite its 2D visuals and adorable character designs, Tea Party at the Extinction Museum appears to hide a much darker story.
The concept of the Museum of Extinction is particularly intriguing: its inhabitants resemble creatures that have already gone extinct, while mysterious tea parties appear to be connected to the events taking place in this strange world.
The game is planned for PC via Steam in 2026 and will also receive a demo. For now, the game is only available in Japanese, and an English version has not yet been confirmed. I already want to play it, though.
