Elections are taking place in Peru and one of the candidates apparently leaned into having a waifu! Her name is Velita-chan and she is associated with the candidate Carlos Espá (who is not expected to win the election and is currently far behind in the race).

But who exactly is Velita-chan and why is she associated with this candidate?

Velita-chan gained attention mainly due to her appearance alongside candidate Carlos Espá during his campaign closing event. She is inspired by the symbol of the political movement “Si Creo,” which reinforces her direct connection to the party’s visual identity.

The presence of Velita-chan quickly went viral, especially among social media users already familiar with the concept of waifus. The character’s design also contributed to her popularity, portraying her as a stylized female figure with a candle on her head, symbolizing the political party she is associated with.

The news was shared by the Facebook page Anmsugoi and quickly went viral. I tried to look for more details to find out who the artist behind the character was, but I couldn’t find much information. I only saw that she is described as an anime-style character associated with the candidate, so I also checked his social media accounts and did not find anything related to her there.

Anyway, I’m not sure if the candidate actually used her at any point or if the photo simply shows someone holding an image of her, but I did not find any official sources confirming a real association between him and Velita-chan.

In any case… I hope we don’t see candidate waifus in elections.
