The title of this post might sound a bit too harsh — “a failure” — but that’s how the author Sankaku Head himself is describing his current manga, titled Boku no Manamusume, whose main character is inspired by his real-life daughter.
So what’s going on? Sankaku Head, creator of Himouto! Umaru-chan (Himouto! Umaru-chan), caught attention in the manga world after making a public appeal asking readers to check out his new work.
New Manga by Author of Umaru-chan Is Not Selling

He revealed that Boku no Manamusume is not performing well in sales, and its future may be quite uncertain.
Sankaku Head used his social media to openly talk about his current situation and the performance of his new manga. According to the author, Boku no Manamusume is not selling as expected, which led him to directly ask fans to read the work and share their opinions online as a way to increase its visibility.
The new manga by the creator of Himouto! Umaru-chan is published in Spirit magazine and features a calmer story compared to Umaru-chan, focusing this time on the daily life between a father and his daughter.

The author himself honestly stated that his manga “is not selling at all,” something quite unusual in the Japanese industry, where direct requests for support are rare. Reports indicate that despite a large initial print run, sales have fallen far below expectations.
Below are some reactions:
- “Is any kind of opinion okay?”
- “Regardless of whether it sells or not, being able to publish a volume is already amazing.”
- “I’m buying it and enjoying reading it!!”
- “In the end, the only option is to make Umaru 2.”
- “Has Sankaku Head really fallen to this level? Seriously?”
- “When you say things like this or leave negative comments, they quickly talk about legal action, so it’s hard to freely share opinions about manga.”
- “Umaru-chan felt more real, but this one didn’t hook me.”
What do you think? It’s rare, but sometimes authors make this kind of request trying to save their works. We’ve reported similar cases before where creators asked fans to share their manga so more people could discover them and help avoid cancellation.
