Persona 4 Revival NÃO TERÁ ROMANCE com Yosuke

Persona 4 is the game in the series with the most controversies, whether because of Kanji and Naoto or because the remake has already said it will “update certain text for a modern audience.” And with the remake, a good number of people started asking for a romance with Yosuke to be possible.

It won’t happen, as Kazuhisa Wada gave an interview to GamesRadar where he said that Persona 4 Revival will not have a romance with Yosuke.

He said:

“We were thinking if we did Yosuke, we kinda have to add all the other male characters as well. And if we did that, like that’s a lot of work. I don’t know if we could handle that.”

The reactions, from what I’ve seen, have been pretty negative, and I saw very few people understanding that this was basically just a “nicer” way for Atlus to say that they don’t want to add a romance with Yosuke to the game.

But where does this whole story come from?

Players dug through Persona 4’s files and discovered text and audio files of Yosuke confessing his feelings to someone, and players always assumed that this was supposed to be a romance with the protagonist.

Yosuke romance

A few months ago, I looked into this because I wanted to make a post about it, but I ended up never doing it because I discovered that Atlus had never commented on it (at least from what I could find).

I searched Japanese websites rather than foreign ones, since the latter may have picked up incorrect information. What I saw some Japanese websites reporting at the time was:

“Files found indicating a romance between Yosuke and someone; fans theorize that it may be with the protagonist.”

Keep in mind that the same files were found in the Japanese version of Persona 4, but at least on the websites I checked, nobody claimed that they were definitely related to a romance. They only mentioned that fans suspected they were intended for a possible gay romance with Yosuke, and that Atlus had never commented on it.

Since Atlus never said anything about it, I decided not to make the post at all.
