Love Triangle With Yuri in My Crush’s Crush Anime Worries Otaku

Last week, it was announced that the manga My Crush’s Crush will receive an anime adaptation. This is a romantic comedy manga by the same author as Gamers. I don’t know if you’ve watched Gamers before, but that is another romantic comedy filled with misunderstandings.

So, why are we talking about My Crush’s Crush? Because I went to read the comments and reactions from fans after the anime was announced, and I saw a lot of people getting worried.

What Is the Story of My Crush’s Crush?

My Crush’s Crush is a romcom focused on a love triangle. We have a boy named Akizuki Sora. He is in love with Fuwa Miya (the dark-haired girl), but Miya is in love with Suzukaze Asahi (the blonde). Meanwhile, Asahi is in love with Sora (the boy).

The boy likes a girl, who likes another girl, and that girl likes the boy. There you have our love triangle.

So, My Crush’s Crush is getting an anime, and as I mentioned, I went to read some of the reactions and found a lot of people, let’s say… worried.

Many of the comments were things like:

“The two girls are going to end up together, right?”

“Great, another NTR story. Just what we needed.”

“Another trash story about betrayal with Yuri.”

Among other comments like these. So I decided to read the manga myself to see what the story is actually like, whether the guy really gets pushed aside, whether the two girls become closer, and what the current state of the manga is.

So far, My Crush’s Crush has 45 chapters released. I have only read 24 chapters, so I haven’t read everything that has been released, and what I’m talking about here is based on those 24 chapters.

Zero Yuri in 24 chapters.

Actually, the manga (remember, I’m talking about the first 24 chapters) focuses much more on Sora interacting with Asahi than on putting Miya into the mix. There have been very few situations where Miya appears and tries something with Asahi. In fact, she spends quite a lot of time on the sidelines.

At least in the part I read, Asahi is completely in love with Sora, and she knows that Sora likes Miya, but she doesn’t know that Miya likes her.

Honestly, it’s quite possible that Miya will end up falling for Sora too!

I saved the image above because it’s from the end of one of the chapters. Throughout the manga, Miya is shown as this girl who can’t stand Sora, doesn’t like being looked at by him, and also can’t stand being touched by other men. Basically, she hates men.

BUT… despite Miya “hating Sora,” the two are friends, and Miya knows that he is kind as well. So there are certain moments when she blushes because of something he does or says. There is even the page above, where she ends up grabbing his shirt.

Meanwhile, her older sister explains that Miya only grabs people she “likes.”

Yep, the girl blushing there is supposedly the Yuri girl who is in love with another girl:

So I’m going to be honest… it really looks like the “Yuri” is going to be abolished and this will turn into a harem, with Miya eventually discovering that she is in love with Sora just like Asahi.

Obviously, I still have 21 chapters left to read and see if anything else happens, but those are my first impressions. And the anime probably won’t adapt much further than the chapters I’ve read.

Each chapter has around 30 pages, so if the anime gets 12/13 episodes, it should only adapt a few chapters.
