The manga Make Heroine wo Katasetai will be discontinued due to problems with the publisher Akita Shoten after the creators announced that they decided to stop serialization due to a series of issues involving the company’s editorial department. The decision was revealed by the authors themselves in a post on X.
The series, written by Michiru Nakayama and illustrated by Tatsuwaipu, began publication in August 2025 on Akita Shoten’s Champion Cross platform. The manga combines school romance with elements of meta-commentary, following a story where the protagonist tries to help his childhood friend, a typical “losing heroine,” overcome a new rival.

The official announcement stated that Make Heroine wo Katasetai will be discontinued after the authors lost trust in their relationship with the publisher. According to the joint statement from Michiru Nakayama and Tatsuwaipu, the decision was made after several issues allegedly harmed the development of the series.
The creators explained that they faced difficulties involving delays in storyboard reviews, slow approval of promotional materials, communication problems with partners, and failures in the information-sharing process within the editorial team.
According to the authors, they had to take on several tasks that would normally be the responsibility of the editorial department, trying to keep the manga’s production running despite the difficulties.
Creators Criticize Problems With Akita Shoten
Even before publication began, the authors stated that they had discussed the series’ commercial performance with the previous editor in charge. According to them, they were told that the first volume’s sales were good and that it was unlikely the story would need to end quickly.
However, later, after analyzing digital sales reports, the creators discovered a difference between the information they had previously received and the actual numbers. They claim that only afterward were they informed that the continuation of the series would depend on the performance of the second volume.
The situation created even more distrust when the authors requested a meeting to clarify what had happened. According to their statement, the former editor involved in the issues had already left the company by decision of the management before the meeting took place, without the creators being informed beforehand.
For Nakayama and Tatsuwaipu, removing the very person responsible for the issues that needed to be discussed made it impossible to rebuild their trust with Akita Shoten.
Manga Will Return Under Another Publisher in 2027
Despite the end of the partnership with Akita Shoten, the story of Make Heroine wo Katasetai will not end permanently. The authors revealed that after their current contract ends, which is expected at the end of 2026, the series is scheduled to return through the publisher Number Nine.
The new serialization is expected to begin in January 2027, with more details to be announced later through the series’ official account. Additionally, the creators confirmed that other works published by them through Akita Shoten will also be removed from sale and distribution starting in December 2026.
The case involving Make Heroine wo Katasetai caught the attention of manga fans, who expressed frustration with the situation. Many readers stated that the problems presented could have been solved through better communication between the creators and the publisher (lack of communication is fucking terrible).
