Japanese Otaku: There’s Too Much Netorare!

Do you think there is too much Netorare nowadays in games and +18 manga? I was browsing Japanese websites and forums when I came across a post from the 11th of this month, where a Japanese adult game fan said that there are too many Netorare games today.

I had never really paid attention to it, but it really does seem like Netorare content has increased a lot. I don’t follow many adult games anymore, but it seems like there are many Netorare releases happening.

Let’s see how some Japanese users reacted:

  • A brain that has already been destroyed… can never return to what it once was.
  • Netorase is rarely seen. Netori and NTR are basically just a matter of perspective. If the man who is being cheated on doesn’t even realize what happened, then in practice it’s just a Netori game.
  • If it’s just that all the time, it gets boring. There needs to be variety.
  • NTR basically hacks human instincts.
  • I wish NTR placed more importance on the balance between emotional conflict and the feeling of “I had no idea about this.” Nowadays there are too many works where the heroine falls almost instantly into temptation and ends up completely in love and satisfied.

  • BSS never really became popular.
  • In doujin manga it exists quite a lot. But in full-length games, it’s hard to build an entire story just around BSS.
  • I don’t like those NTR works where the girl is threatened, forced into sex, and simply gives in. I prefer when she cheats out of her own will.
  • Maybe it’s because a game can show everything from daily life to the “fall,” and also offer multiple routes, so NTR fits very well with adult visual novels. Or maybe only people who like NTR are willing to spend money on eroge.
  • Are there actually games that are exclusively Netorare? (YES, they exist)
  • This country is really beyond saving.
  • I wish there were more variety, but even doujinshi seem to slap the NTR tag on everything and insert some element of it into any story. What is lacking nowadays is erotic content with battles. It feels like many humiliation works were simply replaced by Netorare.

  • Maybe it’s just the result of trying to figure out how to depict female characters in a more exciting way. The male side basically doesn’t matter.
  • Do people who like Netorare feel arousal from stealing someone else’s partner? Or from having their own partner stolen?
  • In hentai, it usually shows a player-type guy stealing someone’s girlfriend. But isn’t that depressing? Wouldn’t that kill the mood completely?
  • When people talk about NTR, it usually refers to those who put themselves in the position of the cheated man.
  • The appeal is feeling pleasure from seeing the girl you like act as if she completely denies your existence.
  • Why is there so little “reverse NTR”?
  • Make pure romance with humiliation.
  • No matter how much I like the situation or fetish itself… if it’s set in a fantasy setting, I just can’t get into it.

It seems like a few Japanese users are starting to get tired of seeing so much Netorare everywhere. This comment appeared after the release of a new adult visual novel about magical girls… who cheat on their boyfriends.

Fãs do Gênero, Vtuber Ange Katrina ganha Doujin Netorare

It’s worth mentioning that recently I posted here the story of author Kurosu Gatari, who tried a shonen manga career, failed, and started drawing Netorare, and now makes a living from it successfully.

And to explain what BSS is, it is a subgenre within the Netorare category. For example, there is a boy and a girl, but they are not dating. The boy likes the girl and wants to date her, but he hasn’t made any move yet.

Then another guy appears and gets the girl, leaving the protagonist empty-handed. That is BSS, which stands for “Boku ga Saki ni Suki Datta no ni,” meaning something like: “But I liked her first…”

Let’s see if Netorare starts losing popularity.
