“Fans” Are Editing Made in Abyss Manga for a Safer Version

After the wave of fans drawing alternative endings for works they didn’t like, we now have “fans” editing ongoing manga releases to remove content they dislike. A Reddit post in the Made in Abyss community introduced an account called “Project Rema,” where the person claims they are editing the Made in Abyss manga to remove what they describe as “problematic” content.
According to the description on their site: “This is an edited version of Made in Abyss where all sexual content involving minors has been removed. The edits are subtle, with drawing corrections and text alterations. Nothing relevant to the plot has been changed.”
A few hours ago, the edited version was shared on the Made in Abyss Reddit community (and later removed by moderators), presenting the initiative and stating that the first four volumes of the safe version were already available.

Looking at the reactions on Reddit, most “manga fans” seemed to like this censored version, with many saying they feel uncomfortable when those scenes appear in the manga.
A few others argued that this is disrespectful to the original work, and one person said that if you don’t like the manga and want to censor it, then why read it at all?
Because of this initiative, other discussion threads appeared, such as one titled: “Why do people act like they are forced to watch Made in Abyss?” and another called: “We should not censor Made in Abyss.”

Another topic that drew attention discusses the division within the Made in Abyss community, mainly caused by debates over sexualized depictions of characters that appear to be minors. The author notes that this issue creates constant and almost unavoidable conflict among fans.
They praise the creation of a safe for work (SFW) version, which allows people uncomfortable with this type of content to enjoy the work without crossing their personal boundaries. However, they criticize the negative reaction from some community members who see this alternative as unnecessary.
The author argues that different people have different boundaries and ways of experiencing the work, and that this should be respected instead of becoming a source of conflict or attacks. In their view, this is one of the main issues dividing the community, and it should not become a battlefield for internet debates.

Do you understand? Fans who enjoy a manga now want it censored—these are today’s fans!
