Fakku vai Lançar Games do PC-98 na Steam

Recently, I became interested in PC-98 games, which have a great library of Japanese games that caught my attention, so I have recently been trying to emulate games from this very old platform.

For those who don’t know, the NEC PC-98 was a line of personal computers released by NEC Corporation in Japan in 1982. The system became extremely popular in the country during the 1980s and 1990s, becoming one of the main platforms for Japanese games, especially visual novels and bishojo games.

Despite its huge success in Japan, the PC-98 had practically no official international release, remaining limited to the Japanese market. Because of this, many games developed for the platform never received translations or versions outside the country.

And during Anime Expo, Fakku (which releases adult manga in English) announced that they acquired the games from Fairytale, a company that released several games for the PC-98! For decades, many Fairytale games remained practically inaccessible outside Japan due to language barriers and the need to use the original PC-98 hardware.

But now Fakku has announced that it will release their games on STEAM! The first game has already been announced and already has a page there, and it will be Dengeki Nurse.

The game mixes visual novel elements with turn-based RPG battles and became known for its exaggerated humor, references to 1990s otaku culture, and several parodies inspired by popular anime from that era.

The official English release of Dengeki Nurse will use a previous fan translation created by the WINE group as its base, allowing the western version to maintain the essence of the original game.

Fakku has also already announced which releases will come next:

  • Pia Carrot
  • Dead of The Brain 1 & 2
  • Jinmon Yuugi
  • Shinjuku Monogatari
  • Ballade for Maria
  • A Man Called DRACULA
  • Necronomicon
  • Marine Philt
  • Dengeki Nurse

With the FAKKU project, titles that have been restricted to Japan for more than 30 years may finally reach new players, preserving an important part of Japanese gaming history.

Besides Dengeki Nurse, other games from the company’s catalog are also expected to receive official versions in the future, although release dates have not yet been announced.
