Top 10 best anime of Summer 2026 Revealed in New Japanese Ranking
The best anime of Summer 2026 are already becoming clearer among Japanese viewers, and a new interim Niconico ranking has once again placed Chainsmoker Cat at the top.
According to information released by Dwango, the company behind the platform, the Bibury Animation Studios series remains in first place, ahead of the third season of Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation.

Chainsmoker Cat Remains on Top
Premiering on July 2, Chainsmoker Cat has become one of the season’s most unusual comedies. The series follows Yani Neko, a cat girl addicted to cigarettes who lives in a tiny, filthy apartment and takes temporary jobs to support her habit.
The anime also features other cat girls, each dealing with their own habits and problems, leading to plenty of chaotic situations.
The result is particularly surprising because Chainsmoker Cat has managed to outperform several established franchises, while the Ghost in the Shell reboot, which previously ranked among the top entries, has now dropped out of the Top 10.
Iron Wok Jan! Surprises in the Ranking
Third place went to Iron Wok Jan!, based on Shinji Saijyo’s manga, which was originally published in Weekly Shonen Champion between 1995 and 2001.
The story follows Jan Akiyama, a young chef determined to challenge his famous grandfather’s rival in a cooking competition filled with extravagant dishes and eccentric characters.
Another highlight is the third season of The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really Love You, which claimed seventh place.
