7 Manga You Probably Didn’t Know Are Still Ongoing

Toradora taiga

Today I’m going to show you 7 manga series you probably don’t know OR don’t remember were published… but are still ongoing!

Yes, all 7 manga on the list below are still being published, and some of them have been going on for MANY years!

And I’m not necessarily talking about obscure series. In some cases, the anime was pretty popular, but very few people know that the manga is still active to this day.

7 Lesser-Known Manga That Are STILL Ongoing

Before we start, a quick clarification: when I say “lesser-known,” I’m not saying the entire series is obscure.

I’m mainly talking about manga that relatively few people even know exist — and, more importantly, that are still being published.

A great example of this is Toradora!.

1. Toradora! Has Been Ongoing Since 2007!

Toradora volume 12

When volume 12 of the Toradora! manga was revealed, I shared the news on Twitter and the tweet went viral.

And then the wonderful thing happened: several anime pages copied the information and posted the same news after seeing that the Você Sabia Anime post had gone viral.

The reason people were surprised is pretty simple.

The Toradora! light novel was completed in 2009 with 10 volumes. Meanwhile, the anime adapted practically the entire story across its 25 episodes, which aired in 2008 and 2009.

But the manga started serialization in 2007 and is still ongoing today!

And a LOT of people had no idea. Seriously, a lot of people. Plenty were surprised to discover that the Toradora! manga was still getting new chapters.

So far, 12 volumes have been released, and the most recent chapter was chapter 93, published on September 11, 2026.

In other words, while many people consider the story of Toradora! completely finished, the manga is still moving forward.

2 – K-ON! Is Still Alive With Shuffle (Sort Of)

K-ON Shuffle volume 3

The original K-ON! manga ended in 2010 with 4 volumes.

The anime got its first season in 2009 and a second season in 2010, along with plenty of episodes and a movie.

Then, in 2018, author Kakifly returned to the series’ universe with a new manga called K-ON! Shuffle.

The story introduces a new cast of protagonists, although some characters from the original series also make appearances.

And that’s where the “sort of” part of the title comes in.

K-ON! Shuffle is still around, but its publication schedule is pretty slow. So far, only 3 volumes have been released, with the third volume arriving in 2024.

So technically, K-ON! is still alive.

Just don’t expect a flood of new volumes anytime soon.

3 – Keroro Gunsou Has Been Running Since 1999!

Keroro Gunsou volume 35

You’ve probably come across that green frog somehow. Maybe you saw Keroro Gunsou on a movie poster, in a game, on some merchandise, or in one of those completely random collaborations that seemingly come out of nowhere.

The truth is that Keroro Gunsou, a manga by Mine Yoshizaki, has been ongoing since 1999!

Yes, 1999.

The series started in the late ’90s and is still getting new chapters more than two decades later.

Currently, Keroro Gunsou is up to volume 35.

It’s one of those series that quietly keeps existing while everyone forgets that it’s still out there.

4. Despite the Controversy, Kill Me Baby Is Still Ongoing

Kill me Baby volume 16

The anime adaptation of Kill Me Baby, a comedy based on the manga of the same name, aired in 2012. The anime ended up being caught in a controversy that, in reality, had nothing to do with the series itself.

Takabe Ai, who voiced one of the protagonists, Agiri Goshiki, was arrested in 2015 for drug possession. The problem was that, at the time, many news reports about the arrest were accompanied by images from Kill Me Baby.

This ended up visually associating the anime with the case, even though the production had absolutely nothing to do with the crime. I even saw some Japanese fans commenting that, because of this, the anime would never get a second season.

But the manga? It’s still alive.

Kill Me Baby began serialization in 2008 and, if I’m reading the information correctly, has reached 16 published volumes.

So despite everything surrounding the voice actress, the original manga simply continued on its way.

5. Nagasarete Airantou Has Two Completely Different Art Styles After So Many Years

Nagasarete Airantou volume 41

The anime adaptation of Nagasarete Airantou aired in 2007, with a total of 26 episodes.

But I bet very few people know this series today.

The manga, written and illustrated by Fujishiro Takeshi, began serialization in 2001.

And it’s still going!

So far, 44 volumes have been released, meaning we’re talking about a series that has been running for more than two decades.

And there’s something really interesting about that.

It has been going on for so long that the author completely changed his drawing style.

Just look at what his artwork used to look like:

Nagasarete Airantou volume 2

It looks WAY better now, right?

But I think it’s pretty cool that, even after all these years, they’ve maintained the same visual identity for the covers. It’s basically a time capsule showing how the author’s art evolved over more than 20 years.

6 – Hyouka’s Anime Aired in 2012, but the Manga Is Still Active

Hyouka volume 16

Hyouka is a bit of a strange case.

As far as I could find, the original novel series still hasn’t been completed either. The series began in 2001 and remains unfinished to this day.

Obviously, that doesn’t mean the author has been releasing new volumes nonstop.

So far, 6 volumes have been released, with the latest one coming out in 2016. The manga, meanwhile, works a little differently because it adapts the novels.

So far, 17 manga volumes have been released.

Of those 17 volumes, volumes 1 through 12 adapted the first four volumes of the novels.

Considering there are only 6 volumes of the original work, the manga is relatively close to catching up with the available source material.

So yes: that Hyouka anime that aired in 2012 ended many years ago, but the manga is still moving forward.

7 – A New Minami-ke Anime Is Coming, and the Manga Has Been Ongoing Since 2004!

Minami-ke volume 28

Minami-ke was one of the first anime I watched after getting my first PC.

The first season premiered in 2007.

Then came the second in 2008.

The third in 2009.

And a fourth season in 2013.

And then it stopped.

I thought, “I guess they finished the story.”

The anime never came back, and I simply accepted that Minami-ke had become a thing of the past.

Until they announced a fifth season!

We still don’t have a release date, but when I saw the news, I was like:

“Wait… they’re bringing Minami-ke back?”

And that’s when I discovered something I genuinely had no idea about:

The manga hasn’t even ended yet!

The series has been ongoing since 2004 and already has 28 published volumes.

The problem is that its publication schedule is pretty slow. Volume 28 came out in September 2025. In other words, it’s been about a year since the release of the latest Minami-ke volume.

That helps explain the anime situation a little. After all, if the manga itself moves at such a slow pace, there isn’t exactly an endless supply of material to adapt.

And to think I spent years believing Minami-ke had simply ended…
