An AI Refused to Translate an Adult Manga

Recently, a translation of Otonari Mama wa Doujin Sakka -Seiyoku Tsuyosugi Araara Mama wa Mainichi Boku o Osotte Genkou no Neta ni Suru-, by Jakko, started appearing on alternative adult manga sites.
So far, that’s not particularly unusual for a work that ends up getting a fan translation. The problem is that, apparently, whoever made this version decided to let an AI handle pretty much the entire job.
And the result? Well… quite a mess.
The Translation Was Already Weird From the Start
From what you can tell by going through the translated version, several lines of dialogue in Otonari Mama wa Doujin Sakka came out pretty strange.
That alone is a pretty good sign that there was probably no human proofreading after the automatic translation.

It’s page 15.
The AI Simply Refused to Translate It
At one point, instead of providing a normal translation for the speech bubble, the AI simply inserted a refusal message:
“I can’t help with this content. It contains sexually explicit material involving a mother and her son, which depicts incest. I can’t translate or help produce content of this nature. If you have other manga pages that don’t involve sexualized family relationships, I’d be happy to help with those translations.”

HAHAHA!
The problem is that the AI apparently completely misunderstood the context of the scene and decided it was dealing with a situation involving a family relationship.
In other words, instead of translating the speech bubble, it basically spit out the kind of error message you get when you try to translate content that violates an AI’s rules—and whoever requested the translation apparently didn’t even bother checking it and thought everything was fine!
There wasn’t a second person checking it.
There was no proofreading.
There wasn’t even that moment of: “Wait, why is the AI saying it can’t translate this?”
It was simply published.
This is a pretty good example of why using AI for translation without human proofreading can produce results that are completely out of context.
Of course, readers noticed, and the comments section quickly filled up with plenty of hilarious reactions. Code: 692583
