Comic LO Manga Surprises Everyone with Ancient Brazen Bull Punishment in the Ending
For those who don’t know, Comic LO is a very old Japanese magazine that became known among fans of adult manga, mainly because of the many controversies surrounding it and the several times it faced possible cancellation.
The magazine has always been surrounded by discussions because of the type of content it publishes. But the reason I am talking about Comic LO today is because of a certain manga published in the magazine called Stop! Jikan Teishi, created by Minna Daisuki.
The story begins with a girl going to school. Her name is Anino Imoko and, at first, she appears to be just an ordinary student!
Notice how the manga’s art style looks very cute, but suddenly she feels something strange and collapses without understanding what happened.
At first, Anino Imoko does not know exactly what occurred, but she is certain of one thing: someone is responsible.
So, she begins investigating who caused the incident. When she gets home, the first thing she does is search through her brother’s adult manga collection and discovers a story about someone who can “stop time.”
From that point, we follow Anino Imoko as she tries to deal with the situation while searching for the identity of the person responsible and finding a way to escape from the problem.
I believe this is one of the few manga where the power to stop time is not given to the protagonist, but instead belongs to someone who causes trouble for them.
After more than 20 pages, Anino Imoko finally discovers the truth: the person responsible was her own brother all along!
She confronts her brother and says that he deserves punishment. As a consequence, she decides to place him inside a Brazen Bull, as shown in the page below:
The manga ends with Anino Imoko saying something like:
“I put Onii-chan inside a Brazen Bull. Let this be a warning: do not use this kind of power to harm other people.”
The artwork is quite cute and the story could easily have ended there, especially because the word “Owari” appears below, meaning “The End.” The manga could have finished with a strange and unexpected joke ending… but that was not what happened.
Author Minna Daisuki had another idea. When readers turn the page, they are met with a completely different image:
A much more serious illustration covering an entire page, showing the Brazen Bull surrounded by flames and creating a strong feeling of punishment and suffering for the character.
This ending went viral on Twitter when Comic LO released the manga because nobody expected such a sudden change in tone.
But what exactly is the Brazen Bull?
According to historical accounts, the Brazen Bull was supposedly a hollow bronze statue created as an execution device. The victim would be placed inside the structure while a fire was lit underneath. The heat would gradually warm the metal, causing the death of the person trapped inside.
Legend also says that the device had a system of tubes that transformed the sounds from inside into something similar to the roar of a bull.
The story is often associated with the tyrant Phalaris of Sicily and the craftsman Perillus of Athens. According to legend, Phalaris tested the invention on its own creator before using it on others.
However, many historians question whether the Brazen Bull actually existed or if the story was exaggerated or created by ancient writers to portray Phalaris as a cruel ruler. To this day, there is no archaeological evidence proving that the device truly existed.
To give you an idea of the impact of this page, the Twitter post showing the manga’s ending reached more than 11 million views.
Many people were genuinely surprised by how the author managed to turn a story that seemed to be going in one direction into something completely different at the end.
