AV Actress Yume Ono Says She Is Biologically Female, Psychologically Male, and Socially Female
Yume Ono, an AV actress who debuted in the industry only last year, gave an interview to the website Spa about her life. Although she was biologically born female, she says she identifies psychologically as male while currently living socially as a woman… and the reactions I saw to this article were mostly from people saying that what she said doesn’t make sense.
AV Actress Yume Ono Recalls “Hellish” Past Before Entering the Adult Industry
While attending college, Ono began hormone therapy with testosterone and legally changed her family register to male. At the time, she was studying nursing and says she lived hiding her condition out of fear of being discovered.
According to the actress, that period was one of the hardest times of her life.
“I kept asking myself what I really was. I was constantly afraid that people would find out who I really was.”
She also recalled having a difficult childhood after her parents divorced. Raised by her mother, she said she received very little guidance about the changes in her own body during puberty, making that stage even more traumatic.
The turning point came during nursing school, when professors explained that gender could be understood through different aspects: biological, psychological, and social.
That was when Yume Ono concluded that she could accept herself as someone who is biologically female, psychologically male, and socially female.
According to her, that realization made the feeling of living a lie disappear.
Standing at 1.60 meters tall and having what she described as a delicate physique, Ono also said she believed she would have more opportunities living socially as a woman than as a man.
After graduating, Yume Ono worked as a registered nurse. Later, she worked in different areas related to the nightlife industry, including nightclubs, sex work, and clinics specializing in sexually transmitted diseases.
However, she revealed that she never adapted to working in nightclubs, saying that many customers were only interested in sexual services without appreciating her work.
That experience eventually created a psychological block regarding sex outside of her professional life.
Yume Ono Says She Found Comfort in the AV Industry
According to the actress, it was only after joining the adult video industry that she found an environment where she felt comfortable working.
Ono said that filming takes place in a professional and organized environment, allowing her to focus exclusively on her performances without dealing with the interpersonal conflicts she experienced in other jobs.
She also said she believes Japan’s adult entertainment industry is more accepting than many people imagine and hopes her story can help people struggling with issues related to gender identity.
At the end of the interview, Yume Ono criticized discriminatory attitudes toward transgender people and left a message of support for those facing similar struggles.
“To anyone who is struggling, I want to say: you are not living a lie. I simply chose to be honest about my sexuality and my life.”
