Man Invents Crime in Small Town Just to Cause a Commotion

Imagine living in the small city of Nagakute, where there are only about 60,000 residents and very little crime. In fact, not much happens there. Even though the city is attached to Nagoya, it is known for being quiet because it is considered a bedroom community, since most people who live in Nagakute study or work in Nagoya.
And perhaps thinking about how peaceful the city is, one man decided that he himself would start a crime just to shake things up!
Man Invents Crime in Small Town Just to Cause Confusion
It all began on the 6th, when a 24-year-old man called the police to report a robbery. He said that an unknown person approached him, tried to rob him, and stabbed him, taking 5,000 yen in cash.

At the time, he had a minor wound on the left side of his abdomen, which initially led authorities to treat the case as a robbery involving bodily injury.
During the investigation, police reviewed security camera footage and conducted additional questioning. That was when they began to notice that the man’s story did not match what they were discovering about the case.
When confronted, the “victim” admitted that he had staged the crime. He said that earlier in the day he bought the knife used to inflict the wound on himself, and later fabricated the robbery before calling the police.
His reason? “To cause s Commotion.”
The original news report only states that, but hearing him say he wanted to “cause confusion” makes me think he may have simply been bored and wanted some excitement in the city. So how did Japanese people react to the story?
- “The wounds caused by someone else and the wounds you inflict on yourself are clearly different, so this kind of lie is usually discovered.”
- “Every now and then people create incidents like this, but I honestly don’t understand why. 🙄 What a pointless thing to do.”
- “At least the knife wasn’t turned against someone else. That’s a relief.”
- “Buying a knife and stabbing yourself just to stage all of this is an absurd level of insanity. He involved the police, emergency services, and caused a huge disturbance for local residents, and it ends with just ‘it was a lie’? If the penalties for false reports don’t become much stricter, more idiots like this will keep appearing.”
- “It seems he stabbed himself and staged the whole thing. This goes far beyond someone who just wants attention.”
- “Why do only completely nonsensical incidents happen in Aichi?”
- “He probably got scared and only gave himself a tiny little poke. So pathetic lol.”
