Japoneses Acreditam que Persona 4 será Completamente Censurado

Persona 4 Revival will be released on February 18, 2026. This will be the newest remake that Atlus is preparing after releasing the Persona 3 remake called Persona 3 Reload, and a huge concern is hanging over fans and those who claim to be fans of the original: whether Atlus will censor the game.

You see, Persona 4 has many scenes that, in the opinion of Japanese fans, would be “problematic” to show today, and Atlus already has a history of censoring its games in remakes.

Take Persona 3 for example. In the original game, there is a part where the protagonist, Akihiko, and Junpei are at the beach trying to hit on girls. The last girl they try to approach turns out to be a man, as he ended up growing facial hair. The boys realize this and run away.

Notice that in the original game, the name ends with a question mark: “Pretty Woman?”

In Persona 3 Reload, the remake, this was completely changed to a woman talking about conspiracy theories, and this is also reflected in the Japanese text.

So Atlus already has this history of changes, and Japanese fans believe the following scenes should be removed or heavily altered in Persona 4 Revival:

  1. Rise’s “striptease”
  2. School beauty contest where the boys dress as women
  3. Scenes where they try to spy on the girls in the bath
  4. Scenes where Kanji is mocked for supposedly being gay
  5. Scenes making fun of Hanako for being ugly and fat
  6. Sleeping in a motel during the school trip
  7. Forcing Chie and Yukiko to wear bikinis during the school camp
  8. Forcing Nanako to take care of the house

This was the list Japanese users made of things they believe Persona 4 Revival should change. Let’s look at their reactions:

  • “Wow, this is totally in line with modern values”
  • “Even Kanji’s hobby gets heavily mocked”
  • “I would add the girls being portrayed as terrible cooks, getting drunk at the club and playing King’s Game, and harassment against Yukiko and Rise when they appear on TV”
  • “There’s too much stuff lol”
  • “They should leave everything as it is”
  • “If you remove the part where Kanji is mistaken for gay, there’s nothing left of his character”
  • “In Persona 3 Reload you can still go to the motel, so they probably won’t change that”
  • “The bikini part should stay”

  • The jokes about Hanako and about Kanji being gay will probably disappear.
  • “Hanako already bothered me back then”
  • About Kanji, Yosuke is too persistent. They literally saw and heard everything his Shadow had to say. He could be a bit more understanding.
  • I understand people drawing wrong conclusions just by watching the Midnight Channel. But after hearing the Shadow’s confession and still continuing the jokes?
  • Was awareness of political correctness really that different in 2007?
  • Jokes involving gay themes wouldn’t pass today, right?
  • Yosuke, Chie, and Yukiko are perfect classmates. They are strong in battle and, above all, fun to be with.
  • I only played Persona 3 Reload and Persona 5 Royal. I was waiting for the Persona 4 remake, but if they change too much because of political correctness, is it still worth playing Persona 4 Golden now?
  • If you play Golden today with a modern mindset, you’ll probably just find it unpleasant.
  • Because of these political correctness concerns, everything ends up feeling less fun than before.

And I’ll end with this final comment:

“Persona 4 looks like a cheerful game on the outside, but its essence — both in the story and in the Social Links — is about accepting the ugly and unpleasant sides of yourself.

So honestly… a Persona 4 that is overly careful not to offend anyone due to political correctness… would no longer be Persona 4.”

Persona 4 Revival has already confirmed a change, and many people believe Atlus has confirmed that Kanji is bi

Despite everything, Atlus has already confirmed a change that is causing people to argue online. On one side are people who say Kanji is straight and only likes things considered feminine, and on the other side are people who want him to be gay or bi.

Shadow Kanji

In Persona 4 and Persona 4 Golden, Shadow Kanji carries two male symbols, as you can see in the screenshot above. However, during the remake broadcast, they briefly showed the battle against Kanji’s Shadow in the remake, and he now carries one male symbol and one female symbol.

Shadow Kanji

This change was enough for many people to claim it confirms Kanji is now bisexual, while others say it confirms nothing and only reinforces the original game’s message.

A Persona profile on Twitter said they believe this change is only for gameplay purposes and should not affect the story, since during this fight the boss has attacks that hit only party members of a specific gender, and this was changed just to make those attacks clearer.

However, another change was noticed: in the original, behind Kanji’s Shadow it said “Only Men,” while in the remake it now says “Unisex.”

Anyway, Persona 4 Revival will probably be heavily censored. Atlus likes money.
