Love Live Faces AI-Generated Art Controversy After Strange Official Illustration

A new AI-generated art controversy involving Love Live began on October 31. The official account of Love Live! Hasunosora — a mobile game in the franchise featuring new girls — shared a cute new illustration of the characters.
The artwork was meant to promote a new song by the group, and you can see it below.

Now, take a closer look at the girls’ hands — many of them look quite strange, and fans were quick to point out the inconsistencies.
First, there’s this hand that seems to be missing a finger.

Then, another one looks like it’s facing both forward and backward at the same time — a really odd impression.

Other parts of the image also look off, like the blouse of the short-haired girl and the ear of another character.

In this mistake, it seems like part of the girl’s body is simply missing.

Fans have pointed out several other errors as well, but here we’ll just highlight four of them. Overall, the illustration feels weird — but let’s look at some reactions:
- “Love Live has been around for 15 years, so it’s natural that they might grow an extra finger or two by now.”
- “We’re in an era where illustrators specialized only in fixing hands will be needed.”
- “Is this really official!?”
- “Even if it was human error, this is exactly the kind of thing they should be careful about these days… but it’s such a mess that it’s hard to defend.”
- “People are becoming anatomy experts just to tell whether something was made by AI. That’s great.”
- “If it were only about the number of fingers, maybe we could overlook it. But a human wouldn’t make a mistake like this — it would actually take more effort to draw it wrong. So you can imagine what happened.”
- “If it were just this one detail, maybe it’d pass as a mistake. But with so many odd parts, suspicion is inevitable.”
- “They should’ve just added ‘AI-generated image’ in the corner from the start.”
- “Can’t believe the day Love Live would mess up like this has come…”
- “What a mess. Both the client and the artist must be pale right now.”
- “We’ve entered an era where even a simple drawing mistake is judged as AI work.”
- “Maybe in this universe, six fingers is the norm.”
