This Anime used several AI-generated images

The unknown anime Shuukan Ranobe, which is currently airing, hasn’t caught the audience’s attention and remains a very obscure title.
The premise of Shuukan Ranobe is to be an anime of short stories, each created by light novel authors and illustrators. This anime is only the second production by Ziine Studio, which had previously released just one anime adaptation: the game Murder Mystery of the Dead last year.
They were caught using AI in Shuukan Ranobe, but since the anime is not very well-known, it didn’t spark major online controversy.

The new episode features a scene with multiple images of girls playing sports. While the anime itself is made in 3D, several Japanese viewers identified those still images as the result of AI-generated artwork.

The studio apparently didn’t bother producing its own illustrations. Japanese fans commented on it, saying: “Since it’s a small, unknown anime, nobody really cares if it uses AI.” Of course, that was before the issue went viral.
After learning about the case, another anime fan remarked: “For me, using so many AI-generated images like this is unacceptable.” Others expressed concern about the future: “Will more anime use AI like this?”
According to Shuukan Ranobe’s stats on MyAnimeList, 169 people are currently watching the anime, with 58 already dropping it. The anime doesn’t even have a score yet due to the low number of ratings.
