Yani Neko Anime Is Also Removed in Taiwan

Yesterday, we reported that the streaming service Bahamut Anime Crazy had to remove the Yani Neko anime from its platform for customers in Hong Kong. It didn’t take long for news to emerge that they also had to remove the anime in Taiwan.

Bahamut Anime Crazy is a Taiwanese streaming service that also operates in Hong Kong. The platform had to remove the anime in Hong Kong because Yani Neko features real cigarette brands, which are prohibited under local law.

Today, a statement was released confirming that the anime was also removed in Taiwan:

The distributor stated that the seasonal anime Yani Neko contains scenes that violate the guidelines of Taiwan’s local Tobacco Hazards Prevention and Control Act. Following an order from regulatory authorities, the title had to be immediately taken off the platform.

They apologized to anime fans and said they are still investigating the exact details of the violation with the distributor.

The platform advised paying subscribers to request a refund for the remaining period directly through app stores such as Google Play Store or the App Store, or by contacting the Member Service Center.

According to reports from Japanese users online, people on Taiwanese forums are FURIOUS about the laws that led to Yani Neko being censored.
