Toho Plans Mass Production of Anime, 30 Anime Per Year

Toho presented a striking idea: they plan to “produce anime in mass production.” This concept was introduced as part of the financial results for the fiscal year ending in February 2026. The company aims to reach 20 anime per year by 2029 and later achieve 30 anime annually by 2032.

These include intellectual property licensing, distribution on streaming platforms, international expansion, and sales of anime-inspired merchandise (a great idea, but the anime need to be good).

To support this accelerated growth, Toho plans to invest in both its internal studios and external partnerships. The company has already signaled the strengthening of units such as TOHO animation STUDIO and Science SARU, as well as collaborations with other studios in the industry. A recent example is the investment in studio Orange.
