Shueisha will no longer publish Marvel-based manga series

Shueisha will stop producing manga based on Marvel heroes, and the reason is that its contract with Walt Disney Japan will end on September 30. The Japanese publisher confirmed that the gradual removal of digital titles will begin between September 28 and 30 of the same month.

The decision directly affects several works published in partnership, including adaptations and special collaborations released on the Shonen Jump+ platform. Among the titles are Deadpool: Samurai, Spider-Man: Kizuna, Spider-Man: Octo-Girl, Secret Reverse, and the collaborative project Marvel x Shonen Jump+ Super Collaboration. All of these manga had already ended their serialization previously.

With the end of the contract, physical versions will no longer be reprinted, although existing copies will remain available until stocks run out. Digitally, volumes will be gradually removed from stores between September 28 and 30, depending on each platform. However, readers who already purchased the volumes will still be able to access their copies according to each service’s rules.

The end of the agreement also happens in a broader context of changes in Marvel licensing in Japan. Another important contract, managed by Sho-Pro Books, also ended earlier this year. Even so, new collaborations are still in development, such as the announcement of Silent Möbius x Avengers, scheduled for global release in 2026.

Let’s see how fans reacted to the news:

  • Should I buy “Deadpool Samurai”…?
  • I just need to secure “Octopus Girl”.
  • “SECRET REVERSE,” in addition to going out of print, will likely increase a lot in value due to Takahashi-sensei’s passing.
  • Ah, I thought it was serialization ending… but it’s sales ending, that scared me.
  • Disney is really strict, huh… Deadpool was so fun.
  • People are really saying it’s Deadpool’s fault lol.
  • Good thing they warned in advance. I think I’ll buy it…
  • Did Deadpool Samurai make them angry? lol
Some people say it’s Deadpool’s fault, but it’s probably just license expiration or non-renewal of rights.
