Redo of Healer: Author Reveals High Number of Female Viewers
Whenever someone brings up Redo of Healer, the reaction is usually immediate shock — followed by the assumption that “this isn’t something women would watch.” After all, the anime is infamous for its extremely disturbing content, including graphic violence, sexual abuse, torture, mind control, and morally extreme situations.
However, according to the author himself, that assumption doesn’t hold up. Redo of Healer had a significantly higher number of female viewers than many people expected.
The story takes place in a brutal fantasy world where nearly every character operates in morally questionable territory. The protagonist initially suffers horrific abuse, only to later commit equally cruel acts in his pursuit of revenge, including manipulating and abusing those who once hurt him.
On social media, the author of Redo of Healer revealed that he was surprised to learn that the proportion of female viewers was higher than the average for anime. According to him, this data was calculated based on user registration information from streaming platforms.

This revelation continues to spark debate even today. What motivates part of the female audience to watch such an extreme series? For some, the interest lies in the psychological aspects of the story. For others, it’s the raw and unapologetic portrayal of power, trauma, and revenge.
Within otaku culture, it’s also common to draw a clear line between fiction and reality. Watching a controversial work doesn’t necessarily mean endorsing its themes — especially when the narrative is intentionally designed to provoke discomfort.
