Someone Started Watching Harry Potter for Malfoid, Only to Discover Draco Is Actually a Guy

If you follow anime trends on social media, chances are you’ve already seen Malfoid. I even talked about her here! Malfoid is the female version of Draco Malfoy, one of the characters who antagonizes Harry in the Harry Potter franchise.

The trend started when an artist drew a female version of Malfoy. Fans quickly gave her the nickname Malfoid, and now all kinds of fanart and cosplays featuring the character are popping up online.

But what happens when someone doesn’t realize they’re looking at a gender-swapped version of a male character and actually starts watching an entire franchise because of that character? That’s exactly what supposedly happened to someone who decided to watch Harry Potter because of Malfoid!

Anime Fan Mistakes Female Draco Malfoy for an Actual Character

In a post on X, HarveyTheNerd said he started watching the Harry Potter movies because he was interested in Malfoid, only to discover something unexpected: the character portrayed in the movies is a guy, not the female version he had imagined.

In the comments, plenty of people were confused. Did he genuinely make that mistake, or was the post just bait designed to go viral and get anime pages to repost it for easy content?

And yes, several anime pages picked up his tweet without bothering to fact-check it and simply published it. Because who needs a source, right?

Looking at his other tweets, this apparently might have been bait. However, I can’t say that for sure because he never provided any further details. Still, I came across some interesting replies from other users.

Although most replies came from people who had watched Harry Potter, some commenters admitted they had never seen the movies and had no context for the Malfoid trend.

Others said they had genuinely assumed the character in the movies was a girl, only to find out that Malfoid was actually a gender-swapped version of Draco.

So, even though the original poster never clarified whether his tweet was bait, other commenters offered more sincere accounts suggesting that this kind of confusion really does happen.

Expect to see more Malfoid posts here on the site!
