Dengeki Daisy Anime Announced and “Anime Fans” Complain

It was announced that the classic shojo manga Dengeki Daisy, originally launched in 2007, will finally receive an anime adaptation. However, some anime “fans” are criticizing the manga because of the age gap between the protagonists.
Dengeki Daisy is a shojo manga released in 2007 about a 16-year-old orphan girl and the 24-year-old school custodian who looks after her after her brother dies. I haven’t read the manga, but they probably end up falling in love after a lot of drama.
The manga is quite popular and has a high score on MAL, sitting at 8.26. Today, the anime was officially confirmed, but unfortunately we’re already seeing nasty comments.

Because of the age gap and because it’s a romance story, many people are posting comments such as:
- “Age-gap shojo manga” — just call it Pedophilia: The Manga.
- The guy is 24 and she’s 16, she is a CHILD.
- I’m crying, this is going to be so problematic when it airs, the world is not ready for you.
- Age gap equals pedophilia.
- Can’t these people adapt something normal for once? Who is going to watch this?
- Please stop adapting pedophile manga, a 16-year-old girl cannot be in a relationship with a 24-year-old man.
- 24 years old and 16 years old… please cancel this pedo trash.
- Studios adapting pedo trash instead of adapting actually substantial romances.
- This was the first manga I read as a child and I didn’t know what pedophilia was.
- Okay, I hate this.
- Stop calling pedophilia an “age gap.”
- Blocked.
- Of course they announced a pedophilia anime during Pride Month instead of a queer anime.
- Predators target teenagers during vulnerable times — how is this romance?
Among many other comments, I’m honestly impressed by how some people simply cannot separate fiction from reality and keep repeating this nonsense.
Fiction is fiction, and fiction is good precisely because it can include things reality does not allow. Let me give two recent examples. I had the chance to play 007 First Light and even wrote a post about it.
Even though I didn’t like the story that much, the graphics are beautiful and you visit some amazing locations. There’s a part where Bond climbs snow-covered mountains, and I thought: “This is why I love games — I can go to places like this.” It’s something I do not want to do in real life.
Another game that gave me the exact same feeling was Valkyria Chronicles 4. It’s a war game, and I thought: “Only in a game would I want to experience a conflict like this.”

Fiction is fiction and should not be censored. Put whatever element you want in your story. Equating what fictional characters do with real-world crimes is absurd. If this were a real situation involving a 24-year-old man and a 16-year-old girl, then yes, it would be a problem. In a manga? Go find something else to do.
I think this is the first time I’ve mentioned this, but I start feeling dizzy when I see even a tiny drop of blood. Once I cut my finger and got so dizzy that I couldn’t see straight. The same happens if I watch violent scenes. The only violent anime I really watch is ReZero; I can barely look at the death scenes, but I love the story, and despite that issue I never wanted ReZero to change. That’s why I don’t watch The Boys, for example — my girlfriend told me it was too violent for me. I simply didn’t watch it. I never wanted the series canceled.
Want to see POSITIVE reactions to the Dengeki Daisy anime?
- You have no idea how huge this was when the manga was still running, omg. I’m so happy that all these classic 2000s shoujo manga I followed when I was around 11 years old are getting anime adaptations!
- People were complaining about Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You, where both characters are ADULTS.
- THIS IS A MANGA I READ IN MY CHILDHOOD, OMG??? I love it so much — I cried when I read it. It’s wholesome, cute, funny, has a bit of adrenaline, and some heartbreaking moments too 🥹. I can’t believe it’s finally getting an adaptation; I’m so excited!
- One of my favorite manga. I really hope the anime is good.
- My favorite shoujo manga of all time is finally getting an anime!!! I never thought I’d live to see this day.
- Dude, this was literally one of my first manga experiences. Back when MangaRock was still available on the Play Store, it was one of the recommendations I got, and my god, it was so good. I hope they make a great adaptation.
- It’s so funny seeing people upset about this because back in the day everyone loved this manga 😭. Dengeki Daisy was incredibly popular, and I’m excited to see what they do with the adaptation! We need more shoujo anime adaptations, please 🙏
- People here complaining about the age gap without ever reading the manga can just leave. If you don’t want to watch it, don’t watch it, but let the people who genuinely loved and enjoyed this story be happy about it. Damn snowflake generation. 😭
The Dengeki Daisy anime premieres in 2027.
