Light Novel: Protagonist Is Tasked With Dating and Breaking Up With 5 Girls Without Them Finding Out About Each Other

Gomata no Kuzu to Tadashii Koi no Owarasenai Kata is a Light Novel (which, as far as I have seen, still does not have a manga adaptation) about a guy who has 5 girlfriends, with one detail: these 5 girls don’t know about each other, and he is given a dangerous romantic mission.

I don’t know if we will get more volumes of this Light Novel, but the first volume of Gomata no Kuzu to Tadashii Koi no Owarasenai Kata was released on August 7. Check out the cover below showing the protagonist’s 5 girlfriends:

The author of this Light Novel is Uzou Toshimichi, who has also written other Light Novels (none of them have received an anime adaptation yet), with illustrations by Namako Kuro.

Since the story is about a guy who has 5 girlfriends, let’s meet each of them (attention: the names below are not official):

• Shinki Yoriko (short hair, on the left): A beautiful college student.
• Minatoguchi Kase (long dark hair): The Student Council senpai.
• Tsukiashi Tsumugi (the blonde): His club kouhai.
• Chigira Ami (brown hair): His coworker, who is older than the protagonist.
• Hizume Yuu (purple hair): His childhood friend.

Why does he have 5 girlfriends, and what is the “game”? He is dating his childhood friend, his coworker, his club kouhai at school, a girl who is the Student Council president, and a beautiful college student.

According to the Light Novel’s synopsis, after the protagonist loses everything (from what we can understand, he had money and then became poor), a “certain person” proposes a devilish game to him:

The Dating Rule: To complete the objective, he must keep all 5 girlfriends at the same time without any of them finding out about the others, while also figuring out how to break up with all 5 of them on completely friendly terms within one year.

And to help him with this task, he has the company of a rather sarcastic maid.

The worst part? All 5 girls are amazing, caring, and genuinely like him. He doesn’t want to hurt them and considers himself a “piece of trash” for doing this to them, but he is forced to come up with ways to make each one break up with him or accept the end of the relationship peacefully.

That’s why the maid is there! Since she isn’t one of his girlfriends and knows the whole secret, she acts as his accomplice and “consultant,” helping him plan the breakups and manage his insane schedule so the whole scheme doesn’t fall apart.

It is worth pointing out that this post is entirely based on the Light Novel’s synopsis. We have seen cases before where I covered a Light Novel and the synopsis made it sound like one thing, but when you actually started reading the story, a plot twist happened right at the beginning and the story went in a completely different direction.

Either way, I found the premise interesting and want to see how he will manage to keep his 5 girlfriends while hiding them from each other. I hope it gets a manga adaptation.
