Azur Lane Will Sell Onigiri Made with Rice That Listened to Gyaru ASMR During Cultivation
Azur Lane is doing something absolutely crazy: they will start selling onigiri made with rice that spent its entire cultivation period listening to gyaru ASMR. You can even check out the entire process because there is a YouTube video showing how they created this unusual project.
To celebrate the 9th anniversary of Azur Lane, the in-person event “AZUR LANE MUSI9 FES” will be held in Tokyo on September 5 and 6. Among the various products and announcements prepared for the event, one specific food item caught the attention of fans: a simple onigiri being sold at a surprisingly high price.

The item will be sold for 1,000 yen (around US$6.50), but the reason behind the expensive price is its main ingredient: gyaru rice!
The project involving Rice That Listened to Gyaru ASMR began in December 2025 as part of a special campaign called “gyaru agriculture.”
Yostar partnered with an award-winning farm located in Gifu Prefecture, Japan, to cultivate special rice from the early planting stages all the way until harvest. During the entire process, the rice plants were exposed to ASMR voices and lines from Owari, a character from Azur Lane. She is pretty cute, isn’t she?
The rice used in the project was the rare Hatsushimo variety, known as a premium grain. As the plants grew, speakers installed in the fields played messages from Owari wishing the rice would grow strong and healthy. In addition, some rice stalks received a kind of “individual treatment” using headphones, allowing them to listen directly to the character’s voice during cultivation. The entire process was documented in a special documentary created to promote the collaboration.
Azur Lane Premium Onigiri Will Be Sold in Limited Quantities
Previously, fans could purchase bags of “Owari Gyaru Rice” bundled with themed merchandise featuring Owari, but now the rice will return as ready-to-eat food during MUSI9 FES.
According to Dai Miwaki, a Yostar representative, the team decided not to add traditional onigiri ingredients like nori seaweed or fillings, allowing customers to fully experience the special gyaru flavor of the rice.
You know what? This is definitely going to sell out very quickly.
