Having nearly 200,000 people following you on X means you have fans? And 20,000 followers on Instagram? And 40,000 subscribers on YouTube? Gravure idol and cosplayer Minami Awa seems to have learned that online followers are not necessarily real fans.

The cosplayer tried to hold a handshake and autograph event on December 23 in an absolutely huge venue, but on her profile Awa wrote: “I apologize, the handshake event scheduled for today has been canceled because no one showed up.”

In the background, you can see Awa with a sad expression, looking at the enormous space that had been prepared for her, with absolutely no one in line.

However, she ended up going viral on social media after this incident (or non-incident). Regarding the reactions, some people criticized her, while others felt sorry for her.

One person commented: “If they expect people to show up, it has to be a more well-known celebrity.” Awa saw the comment and replied: “I will do my best to become more well-known.”

But it seems this has become a trend, as now in January Awa held another event where she joked: “Please help me, the manager said I can’t leave unless at least one person shows up,” during another handshake event held for her. I don’t know if anyone actually showed up.
