Old Statement by Bleach Author Tite Kubo Criticizing Haters Goes Viral Again

An old statement by Bleach author Tite Kubo criticizing haters has gone viral again after alleged criticisms started targeting other mangaka, such as Oda.

The context is as follows: in 2010, Tite Kubo used the Twitter handle @tite_kubo (until switching in 2016 to his new account). At the time, he responded to the user @sxypan100, who criticized Orihime and sent multiple messages to Kubo. Kubo got irritated and began replying to fans.

The whole argument started over a dispute about Orihime, but one excerpt from Kubo’s statement still resonates today:

Fãs Apaixonados pela Orihime Ciumenta em Bleach

“I’ll say this because there are some people who seem to misunderstand. What readers have is not the right to change the story of a work. What they have is the right to choose whether to read it or not. If you don’t like it, then just stop reading.

If you have the talent to create something more interesting than Bleach, then you should immediately become a mangaka.

If it really is more interesting, you will definitely have more success than Bleach. If you say you don’t know how to draw, then work hard, become an editor, and give advice to mangaka. If you truly have talent, you will be welcome anywhere.

But if you have no talent, don’t make an effort, and still complain about those giving their best—if you are the type of person who only hinders those working hard—then go hide somewhere, keep your eyes closed, your mouth shut, and live off rain and dirt.”

You can check the record of Kubo’s tweets from that time here. It’s worth noting that the account Kubo used back then is no longer his official account, as he switched to a new one.

In any case, this statement by Kubo keeps resurfacing, and it’s currently a topic again due to online disputes over manga, with people allegedly criticizing certain series.
