The story of Still in Love is going viral for her Love

With the success of Uma Musume, it’s completely normal and expected that fans look into the real-life stories of the racehorses who inspired the characters. One of the most popular stories at the moment is about the character Still in Love. Her tale says that she refused to be ridden by any jockey other than Hideaki Miyuki, creating a kind of yandere aura around her.

Still in Love had only one jockey in her entire career, and according to reports, she wouldn’t let anyone else ride her. Only Hideaki Miyuki could race with her, and it’s often said that the two shared a “strange relationship.”

In some interviews, Hideaki Miyuki admitted that after losing a few races and being booed by the crowd, he feared losing his position as Still in Love’s jockey and even thought about running away with her far from everything.

On July 25, 2007, Still in Love developed abdominal pain caused by intestinal torsion and underwent surgery. Later, on July 28, she suffered a relapse due to intestinal necrosis and needed another surgery to remove the affected tissue.

On August 1, she relapsed once again, and due to the physical deterioration caused by multiple surgeries in such a short time, she passed away on the morning of August 2. The cause of death was intussusception, an intestinal obstruction where part of the small intestine slides into another section.

According to Hideaki Miyuki, even when she was in pain, Still in Love never gave up racing. He revealed that sometimes the champion mare was struggling physically, but she would still go to the track and give her all. That determination made her unforgettable to everyone in the stable.

For Miyuki, Still in Love was a turning point in his professional life. He stated that she taught him it was possible to be kind and determined at the same time, never forgetting that the foundation of a good race is respect for your rivals.

“She transformed me as a jockey. She was the greatest teacher of my career,” he said emotionally.

Her farewell in 2007 was painful for everyone who loved her. Hideaki Miyuki revealed that he had planned to visit her shortly before her passing but didn’t make it in time. “It’s an immense sadness. I really wanted to see her one more time,” he said.
